Upon check-in, your registration sheet will include a copy of our rules and regulations. You are required to agree to follow these rules & regulations during you visit when you sign your registration card.

Rules & Regulations

The following is a list of rules and regulations that have been put in place for the safety and enjoyment of all of our guests:

Check–In / Check–Out

Check-in is at 4:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM. Early check-ins or late check-outs are based on availability. Please contact us the day of your arrival or departure so that we may provide you with the most up to date availability of your room.

Guest Rooms

Guests must abide by posted maximum occupancy restrictions in all cabins.

Guest rooms are not to be used as hospitality suites at any time or for any reason.  Any room used in this manner will be charged a fee $1500 for each time it is used as a hospitality suite plus $25 per person over the occupancy limit. We reserve the right to ask guests to leave the Island if they are exceeding the occupancy limit or not following any of the Island rules and regulations.  If you wish to have a space for your group to gather, there are several spots on the island that can be rented exclusively and catered by our restaurant.

Cancelling Lodging Reservations

Reservations cancelled prior to two weeks before arrival will incur a $50 processing fee. Reservations cancelled within two weeks of arrival will forfeit deposit unless we can rent the room(s). If we are able to rent, we will refund the deposit less the $50 processing fee. Reservations cancelled prior to departure, during stay, will be charged the full amount.

Quiet Hours

Quiet hours in guest rooms are observed from 10:00 PM until 7:00 AM each day. During this time, please refrain from yelling, loud music, running through the halls, etc. Quiet hours are observed starting at 11 PM until 7 AM each day in the restaurant, Great Room bar, and event spaces

Recreational Equipment

Recreational equipment is first come, first served. Please be respectful of others and return all equipment and pieces to where you found them.

Life Jackets

Life jackets must be worn at all times while in a water sports vehicle. If you cannot locate a life jacket, please visit the office and one will be provided.

Swimming

There is no life guard on duty. Swim at your own risk. Swim hours are from 6:30 AM to dusk each day in the designated swim dock area. For your safety, please do not swim or dive near the boat house on the north side.

Adult Only Cabins

Some cabins on the island are reserved for adults only. Our Shore Lodge rooms are adult only unless you rent the entire building.

Please ensure children in your party remain in areas rented either exclusively by your party or common areas on the island. If you are staying in an adults-only building and will have a child staying with you, you will be asked to move to a room in a different building. If no such room is available, then you will be charged $100 per night per child.

Pets

Service animals are allowed with proper documentation.

Ferry

Our ferry pontoons may carry no more than 10 full grown adults. This is in accordance with our liability insurance and enforced for the safety of you and all our guests. Boats may be physically capable of carrying more passengers but we reserve the right to limit passengers to 10 adults.

Stout's Motorized Boats & Golf Carts

No motorized boat or golf cart owned by Stout’s Island Lodge shall be driven by anyone other than a Stout’s Island Team Member.

Guest–Owned Motorized Boats

Guest-owned motorized boats must be docked in a designated boat docking space which is rented in advance. Guests must notify the office at 715-354-3646 before coming across to check-in.

Guests must park boat in spot that has been designated for their reservation. Boat slip must be rented in advance. Guests must display parking permit

Dining

Dinner reservations are required. See Breakfast, Lunh, and Dinner Hours.

No dining reservations may be made after 6:30 PM with children and no children are allowed in the dining room after 7:30 PM. Children are considered to be 13 or under.

Patio dining is available weather and event permitting. Guests must check with dining room before sitting on patio.

The dining room dress code for breakfast and lunch is “island casual” (jeans, t-shirts, sandals, etc.). In the evenings the standard is business casual (button-downs, polo shirts, slacks, blouses, skirts, etc.). Dress jeans and dress shorts that are not worn, torn, or distressed in any way may be worn during dinner as well. Caps and hats are not allowed at any time.

It is our goal to provide the finest dining experience possible and therefore we ask all our guests to make the best possible effort to adhere to this dress code.  However, we still wish for you to relax and enjoy your meal with us–please ask us if you have any questions or concerns.

Outside Beverages and Food

There is no outside alcohol of any kind allowed. Please leave the cases of booze at home.

According to Wisconsin Statue 125.32 6a, guests of Stout’s Island Lodge are prohibited from consuming food and beverage not provided by Stout’s Island Lodge in the island common areas. Please enjoy our fabulous restaurant as well as our full bar and extensive wine list.

Failure to comply with state law and resort policy can result in your reservation being cancelled and removal from Island. If the case warrants it, law enforcement will be contacted.

What is the additional charge per night for having more than the recommended number of guests in a room?

We charge $25 per night, per additional person over the age of 12 years. Room rates are based on recommended maximum occupancy. Recommended maximum occupancy is determined based on the number of people that could comfortably sleep given the type of beds in the room. King and queen beds comfortably sleep up to two guests. Full beds and sofa sleepers sleep one young adult/adult guest comfortably. Twin beds sleep one guest comfortably. In some cases, additional guests and beds may be accommodated in each room. There is a $25 charge per night for additional guests over 12 years of age or additional bed.

Is extended ferry service available?

The ferry runs between the island and the shore once every hour between 8AM and 10PM for guests staying on the Island. More frequent trips can be arranged, but an additional fee may apply. To keep ferry service running hourly past 10PM, a fee of $50 per hour will be charged.

Do you have an electronic car charger?

We have Tesla and Level 2 electric car chargers in our parking lot.

I am thinking about booking and want to hold the rooms I want while I check with my group. What is your hold policy?

We can hold rooms for up to 24 hours without a deposit. We simply require you name, phone number, and email to hold rooms.

Is there WiFi in my room? Is there WiFi on the Island? Cell Phone reception?

We have WiFi access on our patio near the office and in the Great Room. Guest rooms do not have WiFi. Cell phone reception is quite good at the Island for all standard carriers (AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, Mosaic).

Do you require a deposit to reserve my room?

A deposit of 50% of your lodging fee is required at the time of reservation.

Are there any shared kitchens on the island? Are there grills on the island?

We do not have any shared kitchens. The kitchens available are only in the rooms for which kitchens are listed–you must rent one of these rooms to have access to a kitchen. We do not have any grills on the island and request you do not bring your own grill or hot plate for fire safety reasons.

Who is considered an adult? A child?

Persons age 13 years or older are considered to be adults (young adults). A child is any person age 12 years or younger. In order to accomodate all of our guest's needs, we ask that children 12 yrs old and under eat in the dining area before 7:30 PM. Please make reservations accordingly. Thank you.

Do the rooms have televisions? Is there a television anywhere on the island?

There are no televisions in any of our rooms. Stout’s is about reconnecting–we remove the crutches of our everyday lives in order to facilitate that connection. We do have one TV above the boathouse that is shared among all guests on the island--a social location to encourage guests to connect with one another–maybe over their favorite sports team.

Room rates are subject to a 5.5% state and local tax as well as a 15% service fee which is included in your tax rate. All food and beverage consumed on the island will have a 20% service fee added to it as well--this is in lieu of you tipping while on the island.

Room rates include scheduled ferry service, continental breakfast, and use of all recreational equipment except motorized boats.

There is a two-night minimum required to rent a room on Friday or Saturday. Single night reservations are available all other nights. Rates are subject to change. Rates can vary based on dates of stay.

A three-night minimum is required for Memorial day weekend, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day Weekend.

Do you have laundry facilities?

No, however our housekeeping can offer emergency service for an additional fee.

What is the tax charged on your rooms?

Rates are subject to state & county sales tax of 5.5% as well as a 15% service fee. This fee ensures that our staff is paid a fair, living wage and allows for no tipping while on the island.

Do I tip while on the island?

No tipping is required for boat drivers or housekeeping staff as a flat 15% service fee for lodging is added to each reservation. This service charge helps to ensure that our boat drivers, housekeeping staff, and back of house restaurant staff are paid a fair, living wage. There is no service charge for dining in the restaurant, and tipping servers is welcomed and encouraged.

Where do I park?

You can park your car in our parking lot and bring your luggage to the dock. In you have a lot of luggage, please do not hesitate to ask our drivers for assistance. They are more than happy to help! Once on the island, our driver will bring all luggage to your room.

You can pull up to the dock to unload before parking.

Are there motorized boats for rent from the island?

No, but we do have canoes, hydro bikes and kayaks. These are free for our guests to use. See the "area attractions" for motorized boat rental nearby.

Are there common areas or gathering spaces in each cabin?

Most cabins do not contain a shared space, sitting area, or common area that can be rented as part of the cabin, with the exception of what is included with individual room rentals (for example, Katherine 2 has a sitting area and deck). However, there are many common areas and sitting areas for use by all guests on the island including but not limited to the Game Room, the Great Room in the Main Lodge, South Lawn, tennis court & tables, Upper Bonfire Area, Lower Bonfire Area, Swim Dock, Main Lodge breezeways, and patio. If you require a private gathering space, we have both the Ice House and Mrs. Stout’s Room which can be reserved in advance for gatherings and catered meals.

Do you have ice on the island for my cooler?

Yes! There is ice available complimentary in the Main Lodge. You can visit the office or the dining room to get as much as you need.

Does each room have a private bathroom?

Yes! And its own entrance.

Can I get a roll-a-way bed in my room? Is there an additional charge?

No. We have twin sized, dual layer air mattresses, but no roll-a-ways. There is an additional $25 charge for an air mattress to be set up in your room. Let us know at your booking, or prior to arriving and we can have it in your room at check-in.

Do you accept cash?

Stout's Island Lodge is a cashless facility. Credit cards on file can be used for room charges that result in one final payment in addition to the remaining lodging balance upon departure, or you can use a credit card for purchases throughout your stay.

How big is the Island?

The island itself and the east island, accessible by a walking bridge, have a combined acreage of 18 acres. The island is located on the Red Cedar Lake which is an 1800 acre lake in Barron County.

What airport is the most convenient to fly into if I am coming from farther away?

The most convenient airport to us is the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport. This airport is a 2.5 hour drive. They have car rental facilities available. The closest airport to us is the Eau Claire Airport, but this is a smaller airport and the flights tend to be more expensive. This airport is a 1 hour drive.

Do you have wood for the wood-burning fireplace in our room?

Yes! Wood is provided complimentary to all rooms with wood-burning fireplaces and for all groups that wish to use our private lower bonfire area.

Can I bring food and beverage to the Island?

Some of our cabins have kitchens and a few have small refrigerators. Guests may bring food and beverages into their guest rooms, however in accordance with our liquor license and food operating permits, guests are prohibited from bringing it in common areas, including, but not limited to lawns, recreation areas, boathouse, and Great Room. We do have a fine dining restaurant and a full bar and extensive wine list that we are certain you’ll enjoy.

Is there swimming?

Yes. The swimming dock is on the South side of the island and includes a popular swimming raft. We also have added a small "beach" area just below the bridge, between the 2 islands. It is better for smaller children and is much shallower and more accessible for little ones. Lifeguards are not provided, so please be careful.

Are there cabins available to rent?

We rent each guest room separately in each cabin. Cabins are made up of between two and five rooms. All rooms have a private bathroom and separate entrances to guests rooms. Renting an entire cabin is ideal for groups that are vacationing together and there is a 15% savings for renting the entire cabin. What should I expect at check-in?

Your ferry ride is the start of your Island adventure.  We do not have a formal check-in desk. Our ferry leaves the shore on the hour. We recommend arriving 10-15 minutes prior to the ferry’s departure for your check-in ferry ride to ensure you have enough time to unload you vehicle and be ready to depart. Check-in is 4 PM or later. Ferries depart for the Island from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily. The ferry ride is ten minutes long. During the ferry ride, our driver will ask you to review your reservation information and sign your registration agreeing to the terms of your stay. This is all you will need to do to check-in. You may visit the office on the Island after you arrive to make any modifications to your reservation.

Parking
Parking is available free of charge in our parking lot at the intersection of County Highway V and Highway 48.

You can park your car in our parking lot and bring your luggage to the dock. In you have a lot of luggage, please do not hesitate to ask our drivers for assistance.  They are more than happy to help!  Once on the island, our driver will bring all luggage to your room.

The driver will also ask you if you would like to make dinner reservations — please let him know the time and number in your party and we will do our best to accommodate you.

What is fishing like on the lake?

The fishing is fabulous! There are Bluegill, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Panfish and Walleye as well as other types of fish in the lake. The lake is 53 feet deep in some locations. Fishing is good off the boathouse as well.

Do you have handicap access?

We do have ADA public restrooms and guest rooms. Due to the nature of being an island, terrain can be unfriendly to wheelchairs and those with mobility issues. Trails are gravel with several hills. We are happy to assist guests to and from the boat house, but full island, all day transportation is not available. Staying in the Main Lodge is recommended for guests with mobility issues.

What other activities are there on the island?

In addition to swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boards, hydro bikes and fishing (we do have some fishing poles and bait on the island), there is a clay tennis court, a billiard table, table tennis, badminton, croquet, bocce ball, lovely walking paths, a hiking trail and gardens, bird watching, board games, and roasting s’mores at the nightly bonfire. And don’t forget reading a great book, overlooking an amazing view, followed by a lovely nap.

What do your nightly rates include?

Rates include scheduled ferry trips, continental breakfast and use of all non-motorized recreational equipment.  For more details about recreation that is included, visit our Island Activities page.

Do you have any minimum stays?

A minimum stay of two nights is required to reserve Friday, Saturday, or Sunday nights. Single night reservations are available Monday-Thursday. Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day require three night stays.

What is the tax charged on your rooms? Do you charge any resort fees?

Rates are subject to state & county sales tax of 5.5%. We DO NOT charge resort fees (yay!).

Do you require a deposit to reserve my room?

A deposit of 50% of your lodging fee is required at the time of reservation.

What is your cancellation policy?

A deposit equal to fifty percent of your total room charges will be charged at the time of booking. Stout’s Island Lodge is an exclusive property where every guest reservation is both important and special to us. If your travel plans change and you must cancel your reservation, please call us at least 14 (fourteen) days* prior to your arrival date to cancel your reservation less a $50 processing fee per room.

In the unlikely event that you must cancel with less than fourteen (14) days* notice, shorten your stay or check out early, please understand that we must ask you to take responsibility for your entire reservation. If we can rebook your room(s), a full or partial refund may be made.

Rates/policies are subject to change and vary during high impact periods and special requests.

A 30 day cancellation notice is required on multiple room bookings, whole cabin bookings, and for some holidays and special events. See contract for group booking cancellation policy.

When is check-in time? Can I check in early?

Check in is at 3:00 PM and checkout is 11:00 AM. Early check-ins or late check outs are based on availability. Please contact us the day of your arrival or departure so that we may provide you with the most up to date availability of your room.

Are pets allowed on the Island?

Unfortunately, we do not allow pets of any kind in rented guest rooms.We recommend Paws at Play Boarding as a local boarding facility.  A link to their website can be found here: http://www.pawsatplayboarding.com/

Can I bring food and beverage to the Island?

Some of our cabins have kitchens and a few have small refrigerators. Guests may bring food and beverages into their guest rooms, however in accordance with our liquor license and food operating permits, guests are prohibited from bringing it in common areas, including, but not limited to lawns, recreation areas, boathouse, and Great Room. We do have a fine dining restaurant and a full bar and extensive wine list that we are certain you’ll enjoy.

In addition, alcohol brought by guests is limited to one bottle of wine (or equivalent) per day, per guest. There is no “hosting” of alcohol allowed, in other words, please leave the cases of booze at home.

Do I tip while on the island?

No tipping is required to individual team members as we have added a flat 15% service charge to each reservation and to the food and beverage purchased while on the island.  This helps to ensure that ALL team members are paid a fair, living wage whether they are handling your luggage, washing dishes or performing one of the many tasks required to operate the island.  Just show up and unwind…we’re at your service!

What is the ferry schedule?

The Stout’s Island ferry leaves the island for the shore 10 minutes to the hour.  The ferry arrives on shore on the hour and then returns to the Island. Ferries run from 7:50 AM to 10:00 PM daily.  Ferries may be available at other times for a $25.00 fee.  Our ferries can hold of maximum of 10 passengers each.  We have both a covered pontoon and an uncovered pontoon which we use alternately or in conjunction as appropriate with conditions.  Our ferry is for passengers only; no vehicles are allowed on the ferry or on the island.  Please see our Location tab for directions to the island.

We do have one TV above the boathouse that is shared among all guests of the island. A social location to encourage guests to connect with one another–maybe over their favorite sports team.

Do you have ice on the island for my cooler?

Yes! There is ice available complimentary in the Main Lodge. You can visit the office or the dining room to get as much as you need.

Do you have wood for the wood-burning fireplace in our room?

Yes! Wood is provided complimentary to all rooms with wood-burning fireplaces and for all groups that wish to use our private lower bonfire area.

Is there WiFi in my room? Is there WiFi on the Island? Cell Phone reception?

We have WiFi access on our patio near the office and in the Great Room. Guest rooms do not have WiFi. Cell phone reception is quite good at the Island for all standard carriers (AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, Mosaic).

Do you have laundry facilities?

No, however our housekeeping can offer emergency service for an additional fee.

Do you have handicap access?

We do have ADA public restrooms and guest rooms. We have limited ability to transport guests from the boathouse to guest rooms. Full island, all day transportation is not available.

Dining on the Island

When is your restaurant open? What meals are served?

Our restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  For the most updated hours and sample menus, please visit Dining Overview page.

Reservations are strongly encouraged – please phone Stout’s directly prior to arrival (715-354-3646).

What is the dress code for dinner?

The dining room dress code for breakfast and lunch is “island casual” (jeans, t-shirts, sandals, etc.).

In the evenings for dinner the standard is business casual (button-downs, polo shirts, slacks, blouses, skirts, etc.).  Jeans and shorts that are not worn, torn, or distressed in any way may be worn during dinner as well. Caps and hats are not allowed at anytime.  It is our goal to provide the finest dining experience possible and therefore we ask all our guests to make the best possible effort to adhere to this dress code.  However, we still wish for you to relax and enjoy your meal with us–please ask us if you have any questions or concerns.

Are there any adult-only times in the dining room?

Our dining room is reserved for adults only after 7:30 PM. We ask that families with children 12 years and younger make reservations accordingly to allow time to finish their meal before 7:30 PM.

Recreational Amenities & Local Businesses

Is there swimming?

The swimming dock is on the South side of the island, and includes a popular swimming raft. Lifeguards are not provided.

Can I bring my own boat to the lodge?

There is limited dock space for a daily rate of $40.00 – you must confirm directly with the Island for a reservation.

Are there motorized boats for rent from the island?

No, but we do have canoes, hydro bikes and kayaks. These are free for our guests to use.

Are there companies that rent boats? Pontoons? Fishing Boats?

Yes—see our Area Attractions page for more details. There is an additional fee to dock a boat at Stout’s.

What is fishing like on the lake?

There are pan fish, walleye, Northern, and Bass fish in the lake. The lake is 45 feet deep in some locations. Fishing is good off the boathouse as well.

What other activities are there on the island?

In addition to swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing, there is a clay tennis court, a billiard table, table tennis, croquet, bocce ball, golf at nearby locations, lovely walking paths, hiking trails and gardens, bird watching, board games, and roasting s’mores at the nightly bonfire. And don’t forget reading a great book overlooking an amazing view followed by a lovely nap.
